Enrile not to oppose Duterte’s declaration of Martial Law

Former enemy, now ally of the Marcoses Juan Ponce Enrile believes he is no longer in politics to put a stop in the implementation of martial law if ever the president declares so.

Whether I support him or not, we will be under martial law if he declares it. What can I do? I will not oppose him. How can I? I’m no longer in politics. If they can’t find a different methodology to control the situation. He might declare martial law,” the political survivor who served seven administrations articulated.

Furthermore, Enrile, one of the pillars of the original martial law thinks that the president faces heavier problems than Marcos for he has to deal with the gaining foothold of ISIS in the country, communist insurgencies, intensive war on drugs, vociferous opposition as well as the traditional problems in Mindanao. Unlike in his time during the Marcos dictatorship, they only dealt with problems concerning the MNLF and CPP-NPA.

ISIS is a worldwide problem, that’s why I said the President has bigger problems than we encountered because back then (during Marcos’ time) the constabulary, which is now the PNP, and the military were consolidated under one department, which was under me,” Enrile, who was defense minister for 17 years, said.
