Alvarez says Mocha is qualified to run as senator due to her ‘genuine heart’ for Pinoys
Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez confirmed that Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson is a part of the partial list of the 2019 senatorial bets under Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban).
Those also included in the partial list are presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chair Francis Tolentino, and Representatives Karlo Nograles of Davao City, Alfredo Benitez of Negros Occidental, and Geraldine Roman of Bataan.
Yet Alvarez, who is also the PDP-Laban’s secretary-general emphasized that this is but a temporary list only.
"Itong mga sinasabi ko, alam naman nating lahat na ito ay parang temporary list dahil kailangan pa rin i-finalize ng leaders ng partido," he clarified.
"Kasi lahat ng listahan ng senatorial candidates namin ay kailangan aprubahan," he added.
Asked why Uson, who came to national attention because of her active and fervent support for President Rodrigo Duterte, was included in the list, Alvarez said: "Tingin ko naman, unang-una, kaya niyang manalo."
Alvarez replied to a question of Uson’s inclusion, he stated that
“Pangalawa, I think she has a genuine heart for the Filipino people."
Uson on the other hand said that unless Duterte asks her to run, she has no plans on doing so.
While Duterte said that it is better to just let the Filipino people decide who to vote for in the upcoming elections.
