Duterte apologizes for ‘detached’ MRT3 train incident

The uncoupling of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 train car caused the unexpected inconvenience for last week’s passengers. President Rodrigo Duterte personally apologized for such an incident where 130 – 140 passengers were evacuated from the train car that detached between Buendia and Ayala station.

The government now temporarily handles the maintenance of MRT3, for the Department of Transportation (DOT) has already ended its contract with Busan Universal Rail Inc.,

And the DOT suspects this incident to be a possible sabotage for the lack there of the train car’s black box during the investigations.

"It would indicate sabotage or something did it intentionally. So maybe the connecting mechanisms there or equipment seems to be—hindi nila makita or it’s not there when it’s supposed to be there," said Duterte.

Duterte then asked for forgiveness from the passengers and those affected the incident by stating that,

"We offer no excuse, but apologies maybe to the public for the inconvenience caused.”

Transportation Undersecretary Cesar Chavez on the other hand said that it will take three to six months to solve the issue.
