Former presidential assistant for economic affairs praises the foreign policy direction of the Philippines

Abe Purugganan, a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), shared a Facebook post from former Presidential assistant for economic affairs, Jose Alejandrino, who expressed his optimism with the foreign relations developed by President Rodrigo Duterte with other powerful nations including but not limited to, the United States of America (USA), People’s Republic of China (PRC), and Russia.

Purugganan shared the post of Alejandrino and uploaded two photos of President Rodrigo Duterte and US President Donald Trump chatting and drinking wine, and captioned the photos with his views.

According to Alejandrino, Trump called Duterte and congratulated him for his war on drugs policy and his success against the terrorists in Marawi City.

Alejandrino added that the foreign policy and the relations of Philippines under the Duterte administration is impressive not only because of its positive relations with USA, but also the fact that other nations respected him as a leader.

He seemingly implied that Duterte’s skills in diplomacy is brought about by his firm stance to not be a lapdog or a follower of its previous colonial masters.

This feat is noteworthy, according to Alejandrino, because this, for him, is the first time where a Philippine President was able to achieve such level of international influence and respect.

Alejandrino added that the Philippines is of strategic importance to other nations.

The Philippine’s main asset is its strategic location in SE [Southeast] Asia. The regional powers and our ASEAN [Association of Southeast Asian Nations] neighbors don’t want to destabilize the Philippines. That is why the US, China and Russia did not hesitate to assist Duterte by offering arms to fight terrorism,” Alejandrino said.

The article ended with Alejandrino questioning, and criticizing the opposition by asking whether people like Vice President Leni Robredo, Senator Antonio Trillanes or members of the Liberal party could achieve such a feat.

"Robredo? Trillanes? The LP? Who cares about them? They have been marginalized by their own stupidity," he said.

"Trump in previous phone calls to Duterte congratulated him on his war against illegal drugs and his success against the terrorists in Marawi. The pictures tell the whole story. But not only Trump, China's Jinping, Japan's Abe and Russia's Putin all respect Duterte. No Philippine president has been able to gain so much respect because Duterte does not have a colonial hangup and is known to be a firm leader. As I said, if you want to be respected on the world scene, you musn't be a sissy or a lapdog. The Philippines' main asset is its strategic location in SE Asia. The regional powers and our ASEAN neighbors don't want a destabilized Philippines. That is why the US, China, and Russia did not hesitate to assist Duterte by offering arms to fight terrorism. Those plotting against Duterte don't understand the dynamics of international politics. Robredo? Trillanes? The LP? Who cares about them? They have been marginalized by their own stupidity. They are legends in their own mind. Step 2. Rev powers. Let's finish the job. - Jose Alejandrino"
