Labor Dept. orders PLDT to regularize 8,000 workers, pay ₱66M in claims
The Labor Department said on Monday that the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) must regularize its over 8,000 contractual workers and pay P66 million unpaid benefits.
This was in line with Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III rejecting the company’s appeal regarding the Labor Department’s order for it to regularize its contractual workers. Bello said that they rejected the appeal because there was no merit to it.

These companies, according to the Labor Department, made unauthorized wage
deductions towards its employees, did not comply with the minimum wage set
by the department and the 13th month pay law, as well as they did not allow
their workers the benefits they deserve in accordance to what was stated in the
Labor Code.

In effect, PLDT was ordered to stop their contracting activities, and their registrations were cancelled.
