Columnist makes an appeal for Duterte to rethink his resignation


During his speech before new officers of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Davao City Chapter on Saturday, September 30, President Rodrigo Duterte challenged Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno and Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales to resign with him for he believes they are the ones causing problems in the country.



As response to the president’s pronouncement, veteran journalist Jay Sonza posted in his Facebook post on Thursday a memorandum, requesting Duterte to reassess his intention to step down in his office alongside with Sereno and Morales.

In the written memorandum, it was stated that the 16 million Filipino people voted for Duterte will be giving him the consent to lead the country for the next five years until his term ends on June 30, 2022.



Also, it further authorized Duterte to combat the proliferation of illegal drugs and criminality and corruption in all form and size, as well as, improve the lives of the countrymen.

Anent your public pronouncement early this week of your intention to resign as President of the Republic of the Philippines, I implore you to reassess your intention.

The undersigned, together with more than 16 million Filipinos elected you into office as President of this country by an overwhelming margin of votes against all the other candidates.

As you assumed the Office of the President on June 30, 2016, we, the Filipino people mandated you to lead this country for the next six (6) years to end on June 30, 2022.

We further authorized you to do the following tasks, to wit;

1. Combat the proliferation of illegal drugs and criminality
2. Combat corruption in all form and size
3. Improve the lives of your countrymen.

Furthermore, we have witness the net effect of the war on drugs in the marked improvement of law and order in the country. The campaign against corruption in government is being felt. 

Delivery of social services is pronounced. Big ticket projects are initiated.

Your performance in the last 15 months is proof enough that 82% of the Filipinos believe in your leadership, As such, we find no reason to believe that your intention to resign is in order.

Premises considered, you are hereby directed to remain steadfast in your resolve to serve the Republic of the Philippines.
