MRT problem isn’t just about the rails, it’s about politics - Chanco
MRT3 contractor Busan Universal has been recently fired by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to symbolize accountability.
However, as much as accountability is valuable, it does not seem to be the main concern of riders and concerned Filipinos.
In an article published in The Philippine Star by Boo Chanco, he explained how the promise of accountability will not solve the woes of MRT commuters, and the role politics plays in issues like these will continue to hamper on Filipinos mobility and safety.
Chanco went on to say that Busan Universal knew what they where getting into when they took over the MRT 3 project and even wanted to be excluded from the project.
However, the Filipino consortium used their political resources to win the contract before Aquino’s term ended. The most valuable resource of which is their connection with the Liberal Party.
The reason why the MRT 3 keeps breaking down is because of the outdated rails that also harms the train that rolls right over it. All this information, according to Chanco, everyone including Busan Universal, knew about but not one of them went on to tackle the problem.
If the rails will still not be changed, any maintenance job done on the train will still be moot, and even more Filipino tax money will continue to be put to waste.
Chanco continues to call on the DOTr to deliver actual results rather than releasing political statements that holds no ground in solving the MRT 3 problem. He ended the article questioning the bigger problem DOTr would have to face: either they risk stopping MRT 3 services for over a week, or risk the chance someone dies in an accident caused by faulty rails.
As of today, the MRT continues to be serviced at least once a week, inconveniencing commuters all around Manila.
