PNP receives 100 donated patrol vehicles from Japanese Government
The Philippine National Police (PNP) last November 29, Wednesday, received 100 patrol vehicles from the Japanese government as a form of donation and support to the Philippines’ effort against “terrorism and violent extremism."
Specifically, 87 Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs), and 13 van were turned over to the PNP. 40 Mitsubishi Montero SUVs were parked in Camp Crame where the PNP national headquarters is located.
PNP chief Director General said that the said vehicles would be distributed around the Philippines, highlighting the need of these cars to better promote efficiency of the Philippine Police.
The PNP also received 6 bomb suits, 6 ballistics shields, and 440 pairs of bullet proof helmets and vests from the Japanese Government.
The said generous donation amounts to 225.6 million pesos or in the 500 million yen.
Koji Haneda, the Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines, stated in a speech during the ceremonial turnover of the vehicles that the donation of the said cars was done to promote bilateral cooperation of the Philippines and Japan against “terrorism” and “violent extremism”.
Moreover, Haneda claimed that the donation was also indication of the so called “golden age” of Philippines-Japan relations.
De la Rosa, in the said ceremonial turned over, said: “We assure the government of Japan that this will help serve the Filipino people, also the foreign nationals who visit our country.”
He also added that he values the significance of the donation because the PNP, in normal circumstances, could not procure a Mitsubishi Montero since the PNP, in law, can only purchase vehicles that fall within the category of low-priced vehicles—something that the Mitsubishi Montero is not part of.
