WITH A CLEAR SOLUTION TO POOR INTERNET BY DUTERTE, BAM AQUINO SWOOPS IN TO GAIN CREDIT

Senator Bam Aquino has been a senator since 2013 and is the chairman of the Senate committee on science and technology.

He has had roughly four years to do something to make the internet faster in the Philippines.

Maybe he has exerted effort to improve our slow internet connection, but whatever that 'effort is' has not yielded any results. Until today, our internet connection sucks.

Suddenly out of nowhere, Senator Bam Aquino gets a spark of inspiration which apparently was triggered by President Rody Duterte's announce that China Telecom will enter the market.

Bam's Senate bill is said to seek to promote competition in the data transmission industry which promises cheaper but improved services.

All of a sudden it is possible to have fast internet?

Aquino said in an interview that, “Hindi rin kasi ganoon kabilis kahit sinabi mo papasok na ibang player. They don’t operate in a month’s time. They take some time so gusto natin bilisan ito, maayos framework at payagan natin.

Kumbaga, kapag naipasa ito, it’s like an open invitation for companies to transact in this industry, in the data transmission industry in the Philippines. At 'pag binuksan natin 'yan, most of the time ang nangyayari, bababa 'yong presyo, gaganda 'yong serbisyo at 'yon ang hinahanap ng tao,” he added.

Aquino said his proposal removes barriers to competition in data transmission services. He says that data providers would no longer need to acquire a congressional franchise.

If fast internet was possible then, why did he not pass this bill prior to Duterte's announcement of China Telecom's entry or at the time of former President Noynoy Aquino's administration?

The timing of Bam Aquino's bill is very suspicious, it seems intended to derail the entry of China Telecom which is set to invest in the Philippines’ telecommunications industry as the third player.

The Chinese firm, however, must partner with a Philippine company as the 1987 Constitution mandates a 40-percent limit on foreign ownership in public utilities.
