Consul General to New York Daily News: "Your Label of the President lacks ‘journalistic standards’ and ‘context’"

Consul General for New York, Ma. Theresea Dizon-De Vega blasts New York Daily News for hinting that President Rodrigo Duterte is a ‘murderer’ in their publication.

Just recently, after the meet up of United States President Donald Trump and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte in the Association of Southeast Asian Nationas (ASEAN) Summit, New York Daily News published a photo of the two presidents with an eerie caption: “Here’s to my fave murderer”.

De Vega, believing that the intense caption was meant to refer to the Philippine President, wrote a response to the said news agency.

She said calling the ‘democratically-elected head of state’ Duterte a murderer is the ‘height of journalistic irresponsibility and malice’.

President Duterte enjoys broad support from and the trust of the Filipino people for his candor, patriotism, governance skills, leadership, and genuine desire to move the Philippines forward. Despite what your writer describes as "his clenched-fisted, expletive-filled rants" , He is precisely loved by Filipinos for his raw honesty. He has in just a little over a year at the helm of government effected profound and ground-breaking changes to make the lives of Filipinos better.” she said.

She added that “That label[the caption] is obviously based on the false perception that the Philippine Government is involved in the indiscriminate killing of drug offenders. A responsible publication would have investigated and seen that this is clearly not the policy of the government as seen by the fact that around a million drug offenders have surrendered and are under rehabilitation.

De Vega then noted that calling Duterte a murderer and implying that he has promoted state-sponsored killings without proof or basis is merely an allegation and it holds no water.

She ended her tirade with appealing to the New York Daily news to rectify their actions in their publication.

  1. Consul General De Vega, maybe our beloved President should start moving on the problem of the Bicutan Detention Center before it gains international furor. You were handed files so you are informed of the situation. Sec. cayetano has been informed. yet nothing has been done. Have you actually informed the President of that problem? Maybe you should get on the internet & look for CORRUPTION CHRONICLES https://www.facebook.com/cc.dreamteam/.. they are gaining followers & this is an embarrassment to not only the country but to our president. Of course it is not his doing but the previous admin but of course the longer he, you or his cabinet is inactive about it nor does anything to correct it, the more people will think that he is not actively pursuing the corrupt in government. The Commissioner of BI is his appointee. The Sec. of Justice Aguirre is his appointee. Cayetano is his appointee so why the inaction? Are they already tainted by the deeply imbedded corruption & syndicate operating in th Bureau of Immigration or have they always been tainted? Your move Consul General
