Salary increase of soldiers, policemen and other uniformed personnel are set to happen in 2018
House Resolution No. 18—a resolutions sponsored by House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, Majority Leader Rodolofo Fariñas and Minority Leader Danilo Suarez—is passed in the House Committee of the Appropriations. The said resolution will increased the salary of soldiers, policemen and other uniformed personnel in 2018.
The said resolution will then to go through a plenary meeting that will help determine the loopholes and room for improvements for the said resolution.
Chairman of Appropriations Committee, Rep. Karlo Nograles said: “Tapos na sa committee, then from the committee, it will referred to plenary. Wala naman akong nakikita ng magiging problema sa plenaryo dahil lalong-lalo na ito ay sponsored [by] Speaker Alvarez. Pati na ang Majority at Minority leaders suportado ito. Sa Senado [naman], inaasahan na ma-approve.”.
The said resolution is expected to be approved before congress takes a break in December 13 in order for it the reached January 2018 self-imposed deadline of the salary increase.
Teachers Party-list Representative France Castro said that he is also hopeful that the salary of government civilian personnel will also receive an increased in their salary as well.
The said sentiment from the Teachers Party-list Representative was supported by Rep. Norgales by stating that after the increase of the salary of the uniformed personnel, it is natural that the salary of civilian personnel would also be discussed and pursued by the Duterte Administration.
The Department of National Defense (DND), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), and other institutions that represent the other groups of uniformed personnel expressed their gratitude and positive outlook towards the passing of the said resolution.
AFP Chief of Staff General Guerrero said: “Those reso bills clearly are an indication of how the people appreciate the efforts of AFP in terms of being able to fulfil its mandate. [The] support you are giving will definitely go a long way in boosting not only the Morale of our troops but also in making sure that they have decent living and they are able to sustained not only themselves but their families.”
