MIASCOR appeal to reconsider cancellation of operations is rejected by Malacañang

In a statement provided by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, the palace said that MIASCOR’s appeal to reconsider the stopping of their airport ground handling operations was rejected.

According to the statement, it said that the government saw nothing in the appeal for them to agree to the proposition of MIASCOR.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA)’s lease and concession agreement contract with MIASCOR has already expired,” said Roque in the statement.

They added that the non renewal is because of the many theft incidents that have happened in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport as well as the Clark Airport in the hands of the employees under MIASCOR and other airport ground handlers.

Aside from the theft that happened, there is also an alleged involvement of a MIASCOR supervisor with illegal drugs.

The palace said that their interest is to protect the safety and security of the many sirport travellers that go through the airport daily, most especially the overseas Filipino workers who seem to be the main target of the theft incidents.

Although the palace admits that the laying off of the employees under MIASCOR is a concern, they also need to think about the bigger picture. They added that the qualified employees under MIASCOR may still be absorbed by other ground handling companies.
